After the Second World War, from 1949-1991, the world faced a bisected order which was termed as Cold War. In those decades the whole world embraced a severe arm race between two cloven blocks, i e the U.S.A with its capitalist ideology and U.S.S.R with its socialist ideology. That race was the most embroiled scenario of the world history without existence of any war.
After the end of cold war when world saw a catastrophe of socialist Russia in 1991, a pseudo unilateral world emerged. Although Russia wanted to continue its race by making treaty with India and China in December 1998, but enigma and mistrust of Russia-China and cost-benefit analysis of India made Russia’s initiative failure. As a consequence, the emergence of America as a dominating super power of the world was accelerated. But in post cold war period, European states wanted to break the influence zone of America. During cold war Europe was threatened by socialist block and Russia. After the glorious end of cold war, they felt secured and wanted to break security umbrella influenced by U.S.A. They formed a new economic block named European Union and dreamed to dominate world economy.
Consequently, the dream of America to be the supreme power of a unilateral world and to control the steering wheel of the new century cannot be achieved completely.
During the cold war period when the crucial arm race between Western Capitalist block and Socialist block was running, a few states continued their development programs. From those far-sighted states, China is mentionable one. After a chronological development, now, China is not only a developed country, but also a significant rising power of modern economic order.
Geo-politically China has a great importance. It has a wide area with a large boundary which has a direct land border connected with fourteen nations. Its location in Asian region beside Pacific Ocean increases its importance in world politics as well as world economy. With a far-sighted economic policy and pragmatic strategies, through a continuous process, China established herself in a significant position in the race of world economy.
In 1978, China accepted an innovative system of its fundamental state policy. The policy was a miraculous one. The main theme of that policy was a combination of socialism and capitalism. The political ideology was socialist and the economic policy was capitalist.
Deng Xiaoping, the then acumen President of China adduced a new system in its economy named Socialist Market Economy. The system was nothing, but an appropriate admixture of capitalist free market economy with socialist market system. This system was adopted as the first step of reformation of its economy in 1978. This system is also known as Dual Track System.
Under the Dual Track System, some important reforms result a strong economy of China from that time. The decollectivization of agriculture and the dual-price system are two most important reforms of that time.
In china, two most crucial sectors are its agriculture and industry. In these two sectors, in current statistics, China’s 70% of labors are working and more than 60% of GDP come from these two sectors.
In agriculture, China developed a de-collectivization process in which government emphasized on ‘Household Responsibility System’. In Household Responsibility System, land will be the private asset and state only serves some input supports to land owners. Government would provide irrigation, fertilizers etc. The rest will be the responsibility of land owners. In this system, government would take one-third of total production due to his input support and land owners would get rest two-third of the production. This system was a revolution in China. Farmers are totally actuated by this system and consequently a dramatic change has started after enacting this system in 1978 by President Deng Xiaoping. Through his system, the economy of China strengthened and its internal market demand increased. As an ultimate result, China gains a rapid development and produced 2 million goods within 10 years for its domestic market.
In dual price system, another important change of Chinese economy, all industries belonged to two types of ownership. One is belongs to State and another is private. In this system, state owned industries allowed selling any production above the plan quota and commodities were sold at both plan and market price. This dual price system, afterwords, results a great industrial development in China.
In recent years, considering GDP, as an inexorable consequence of its economic policy, China becomes the second largest economy of the world. Fact is that, modern economists predicted that China has the fastest growing economy and it will overtake the economy of America within a few years. It emerged as a threat for the supremacy of U.S.A economy. Mellifluous is China’s average growth rate of 10% for the past thirty years, which is totally unprecedented and which breaks all records of U.S.A.
In 2010, China’s total GDP was $ 5 trillion nearly where, U.S.A GDP was $ 14.7 trillion. But notable is that, in ‘Triple P’ (PPP) approach (Purchasing Power Parity), which was developed by Amartya Sen, China’s total GDP of 2010 was $ 10 trillion.
In ‘Triple P’ approach, although China has a less GDP than that of America, but the curve of China’s economic growth has a high rising trend and the curve of U.S.A economy has an anticlimax low going trend.
U.S.A has a huge amount of foreign loan which is about $ 14 trillion. On the contrary, China has no foreign loan. It is a very crucial and positive parameter for China’s economic development.
But in per capita income, China, according to the report of International Monetary Fund (IMF), in ‘triple P’ approach, has a per capita income of $ 7,518 in 2010 where America has a per capita income of $ 46,381.
Apparently it implies that, China has a less per capita income. But fact is that, china has a vast population which is almost over 1.3 billion and U.S.A has only over .308 billion citizen.
China has a high growth rate of 9.5% where U.S.A has a growth rate of 2.5%. In this level, China is in the first place of America’s blacklist. The headache of U.S.A is that China’s growth rate will increase day by day while U.S.A’s growth rate will decrease day by day.
In China, a high unemployment problem exists with a rate of 25%. On the other hand, U.S.A has an unemployment rate of only near 9%. But China’s present economic acclivity will result an ultimate decrease and development of its unemployment and America’s present curve of its economy will result an ultimate increase of unemployment problem.
In foreign trade, China is the highest exporter and second highest importer of world economy. Within the end of 2011, according to the IMF report, China will ensure a total import which is about $ 11.2 trillion and within 2016, the total import of china will reach in $ 19 trillion. On the other hand, in 2011, America has its total import about $ 15.2 trillion. Within 2016, the total import of America will be about $ 18.8 trillion. The grand total equation is that, within 2016, China will appear as the largest importer country of the world.
China has a large amount of population. Most of them are work oriented, highly educated and skilled technically. China has a strong homogeneous force for heterogeneous society. It has hard power also. It has a strong and large military force with ultra modern equipments and atomic weapon. Foremost, it has a strong offensive security strategy.
Beside these, China’s one of the most important resource is its high ambition.
Within 2016, as the prediction of specialists, U.S economy will contribute in world economy about 17.7% when China’s will contribute in world economy about 18% of total world economy.
From above magnitudes, equations and the anemia of American economy, the recent IMF report affirmed that, within 2016, the acrimonious economy of China will appear as the largest economy of the world. The report creates a worldwide agitation which said that, the next U.S President will be the last President who can lead and influence in world economy. After that, a new supreme authority will replace America. And the name of that new power is only China.
From this scenario of present economy of the world, many thoughtful observers adumbrated that this time for a radical change in world order. The change is an aggrandizement of China. The time is considered as the antediluvian hour for American supremacy. Albeit, some commentators neglected the report of IMF. They argued that, America’s high powerful intellectual society will overcome this upcoming challenge of its economy.
China is now the only antagonist of America for its economic supremacy in world economy. The world will see an adieu for America’s supremacy. But for ultimate result of this game, we have to wait for some more years
